Chris Goes to Peru

A Note of Poverty

If you go to Peru as a tourist, you will not see that much poverty. There are a few beggars and children, but for the most part things look bright and sunny. However, this is not the case for the non-touristy parts of the country. They have children starving in the streets. People live in huts made of junk. There are many areas, even in cities like Cusco, that have unpaved roads with rivers of raw sewage. A policeman in the city of Lima only earns S15, or $5 a day.

The government of Peru does nothing to help these people or improve utilities. There is no social safety net. However, the Peruvian government spends millions of a fleet of MIG-29 fighters.

If for some reason you think that I'm a great writer, and you like scary, conspiracy-laden, psychological thrillers, you can read my novel, City of Pillars, published by The Invisible College Press. It has nothing to do with Peru though. PS: I use my middle name as my nom de plume, but it's still me.
