This gorge really comes out of nowhere. The terrain nearby is hilly, not all that hilly. Then all of a sudden, bang! your are in this really deep gorge.
Here is a small road that leads around the edge of the gorge. It looks quite treacherous.
This gorge is pretty big. To get an idea of scale, look for the road at the top left of this picture.
Sometimes they had to blast the rock to make room for the road. This is a big overhang you have to drive under.
Ahhh, the perils of a one lane road! If a car is coming the other way, you have to back up a few hundred meters to get to a turnoff and let them pass. This is not easy on a one lane road with a mountain on one side and a huge drop on the other. It helps to have your wife get out and help guide you. When we got to this scene we gave up and turned around. We'd seen enough of the gorge.
